PublishCLUB is an educational and discussion platform supported by the CESAR – Centre of Excellence for Safety Research at the Faculty of Safety Engineering (FSE). Its aim is to help PhD students, early-career researchers, and motivated students develop academic writing skills and improve the quality of scientific outputs targeting prestigious Q1–Q2 journals.
Meetings take place in an open and friendly environment based on discussion and sharing experiences. Thematically, they focus on the faculty’s main research areas: fire protection, civil protection, occupational safety and health, and security services.

Program and structure of activities
Expert Lectures (2 ECTS)
Short thematic lectures complemented by discussion. Topics include open science, publication metrics, ethics of scientific publishing, or experiences from guest experts (e.g. COST projects).
Skill Sessions – publication skills development (2 ECTS)
Interactive workshops focused on specific parts of a scientific article and practical tools:
- writing abstracts and introductions
- methodology and presentation of results
- discussion and interpretation of results
- working with figures and graphs
- selecting a suitable journal
- responding to reviewers
- citation tools (Zotero, Mendeley, CitacePRO)
Student Paper Clinic
(Participation 2 ECTS + paper proposal 3 ECTS | presenting up to 5 ECTS)
Students can present their article proposal and receive structured feedback from peers and more experienced colleagues. The manuscript draft must be submitted approximately two weeks before the session.
The goal is to improve the manuscript quality before submission to a journal.
